On May 8, 2025, the Beijing Humanoid Robot Open Source Community (opensource.x-humanoid-cloud.com) was officially launched, marking a significant step forward in the development of embodied intelligence technology.
In recent years, the embodied intelligence industry has entered an accelerated development phase. As a comprehensive industry integrating artificial intelligence, mechanical engineering, sensors, new materials, brain science and other cutting-edge disciplines, building an open source ecosystem is of great importance for the innovation of embodied intelligence.
The Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center, as a national-level innovation platform for embodied intelligence robots, has been focusing on key technology research and development and the creation of an industrial ecosystem. It has established a leading open source system for embodied intelligence technology through the open source general-purpose robot platform “Tiangong”, a large-scale multi-configuration intelligent robot dataset and Benchmark “RoboMIND”, and an embodied algorithm training toolchain adapted to mainstream open source frameworks.
The “Tiangong” robot, which is the world’s first full-size pure electric-driven humanoid robot capable of running, has a measured average speed of 10 kilometers per hour and a maximum running speed of 12 kilometers per hour, leading the world in this field. It can move stably on various complex terrains such as slopes, stairs, grasslands, gravel, and sandy land. With excellent compatibility and scalability, it can flexibly expand software and hardware function modules to meet the needs of different scenarios. As an important hardware platform for collaborative innovation in industry, academia and research, “Tiangong” has attracted more than a hundred partners to conduct secondary development for application scenarios, giving rise to robot products with strong application capabilities such as “Tiangong Walker”.
In terms of data, a key element in the development of embodied intelligence, the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center, in collaboration with Peking University, has launched the large-scale multi-configuration intelligent robot dataset and Benchmark “RoboMIND”. As of now, RoboMIND has been downloaded more than 15,000 times from the official website of the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center, the HuggingFace platform, and the Beijing Artificial Intelligence Public Computing Power Platform. Users from prestigious universities both at home and abroad, including Tsinghua University, the University of Science and Technology of China, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University, the University of Hong Kong, the University of Pennsylvania, as well as top research institutes such as the Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing Academy of Artificial Intelligence, and the Wuxi Research Institute of Tsinghua University, and dozens of core industrial enterprises such as Baidu, Alibaba Cloud, SenseTime, ZTE, Meituan, and Kingsoft Cloud have downloaded and used RoboMIND as the training basis for embodied models.
Recently, the RoboMIND dataset has been awarded the “Best Open Source Intelligence Breakthrough Award” by the OS2ATC 2025, the most authoritative academic conference in the field of open source operating systems in China, and the “2025 Embodied Intelligence Dataset Construction Award” selected by industry-leading institutions, the Robot Lecture Hall & Lide Think Tank. It has also been accepted by the Robotics: Science and Systems (RSS 2025), a top conference in the field of robotics.
In addition, the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center has open sourced the RoboMIND dataset and the X-Humanoid training toolchain, which is a training toolchain for the “Tiangong” robot to connect with mature open source algorithm frameworks. This tool simplifies the usage process for developers, supports users to use the RoboMIND dataset and develop embodied operation algorithms for the “Tiangong” robot based on existing mature open source algorithms, reducing the development threshold for developers and expanding the open ecosystem of embodied intelligence.
From technological breakthroughs to industrial implementation, the open source practices of the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center are reshaping the development paradigm of the robot industry. With the trinity model of “platform + data + ecosystem”, it empowers the entire industrial chain, including core components, system integration, and scenario applications.
In the future, the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center will focus on the full-stack technology ecosystem of embodied intelligence. It will gradually open source a series of algorithms and tools, such as the basic reinforcement imitation learning framework, the WFM embodied world model, the VLM embodied visual language model, the VLA visual language action model, and the basic full-body motion control model. It will also continuously open and maintain more high-quality datasets, leading industrial changes with its rich open source achievements.
Standing at the historical juncture of a new round of scientific and technological revolution, the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center is committed to writing a Chinese solution for the intelligent era with open innovation. By sharing open source to solve key common technical problems and activating the global innovation network through technology popularization, it is accelerating the general application of embodied intelligence. With the continuous iteration of the “Tiangong” robot and the RoboMIND dataset, a more dynamic and creative embodied intelligence industry ecosystem is gradually taking shape, contributing Chinese wisdom to humanity’s march towards a new era of intelligent civilization.
